“I am sure it is,” he agreed, pouring out two cups of steaming, fragrant liquid from a heated pot. He glided over to a low table between their soft seats in a smooth movement long practiced to avoid spilling hot tea, and set down the small white ceramic cups.
“Everything gets harder in wartime, probably even more so for those who run things and not just work at them. It must be nerve-wracking.” He reached back to a small shelf and set out a small round sugar dish and spoon. “There’s also lemon and honey if you wish.”
She took the cup graciously and blew over the top. “Sugar’s fine, thanks.” She scooped two teaspoons into the cup and stirred.
“This war’s really putting a damper on all of my plans.”
