“I’m not surprised,” he said with a sympathetic nod. “The real horrors are at the front lines, I know, but it effects all of us. Troubles on the homefront are no less real.” A little pause but not an uncomfortable one; he didn’t seem to mind lulls in conversation.
“Business venture plans, or something more for your personal fulfillment? If you don’t mind me asking. Please, do not feel the need to reveal more than what makes you comfortable.”
Muscles in her jaw twitched, the only sign belying her troubled heart. “My boyfriend’s on the front lines,” she said.
